Most guest speakers have already accepted and will be able to attend, which makes us very enthusiastic. We hope that you will also be willing to attend the congress and that you will already be saving the date in your schedules. We thank our sponsors who have steadfastly supported us during these troubled times and have thus made it possible to keep this congress going in 2021.

Given the health constraints, the conference will be held in a hybrid format, both face-to-face and virtual. We will be happy to host those who would like to join this meeting. Due to the exceptional situation, only early bird fees will apply.

We look forward to meeting you in Clermont-Ferrand.

The 9th Proteasome & Autophagy Congress will cover up-to date knowledge on proteolytic systems (Ubiquitin Proteasome System and Autophagy) and their implication in different diseases.

Understanding the molecular processes that control the Ubiquitin Proteasome System and Autophagy is crucial for the development of future therapeutic strategies. The Scientific and Organizing Committees set up an attractive scientific program with outstanding international speakers that have contributed to the characterization of the UPS and Autophagy, and to the development of new major concepts in proteolysis. The congress provides an opportunity for scientists to improve the transfer of knowledge from basic to applied science and from group leaders to young investigators, and to open new space of interest and investigation for the near future.

The first session of the Congress will cover new insights on Proteasome structure and function. Recent studies have focused on substrate targeting mechanisms. A specific session will be dedicated to signaling pathways that control the fine-tuning of protein modifications by ubiquitin (ubiquitination and deubiquitination) and  Ub-like proteins. All these modifications play a crucial role in a wide range of cellular processes (cancer, cell stress, signal transduction, etc.). Autophagy is interconnected with the UPS and plays also a major role in cell homeostasis (particularly for eliminating abnormal organelles, controlling energy balance and protein trafficking). These aspects will be covered in the last session.

The meeting will be held in Clermont-Ferrand, the capital of Auvergne, with its University, University Hospitals and affiliated research Institutes such as the INRA, the French National Institute for Agricultural Research. Auvergne is a magnificent province of France, famous for its volcanoes such as the Puy de Dôme, its history, castles, romanesque churches and gastronomy. The 'Chaîne des Puys - Limagne fault tectonic arena' is an exceptional geological site  inscribed on the UNESCO world heritage list.

We will be delighted to welcome you in Clermont-Ferrand and to make you discover the charms of Auvergne.
